Bogens 2 hovedintetioner er, at gøre kvinder mindre bange for naturlig fødsel, og at være systemkritisk overfor det amerikanske sundhedsvæsen. Den indeholder derfor ingen blodige skræmeehistorier mht. hvad kroppen kan komme ud for. Dog nogle stykker mht hvad man, socialt, kan blive udsat for på amerikanske hospitaler. Jeg føler mig opmuntret mht. hvad kvindekroppen formår under de rette omstændigheder, inspireret mht. visualiseringsteknikker mm., og taknemmelig over at bo i Danmark, hvor de fleste, af bogens gode eksempler, er noget vi tager for givet.De første næsten 6 timer består udelukkende af fødselsberetninger. Den meget amerikanske stil, af dem, gjorde mig lidt utålmodig, men historierne var samtidig det jeg, som kommende fødende, fik mest ud af. Den anden del er mere faglig, og kritisk mht. historisk praksis, medicinbrug og den slags.Noget ved bogen føltes, for en dansker, outdated, men den består også af mange års erfaring og kamp.Oplæseren er lidt stiv i det.
