ÍSLANDSKLOKKAN (Iceland's Bell) recounts lean years in the 18th century marked by destructive vulcanic eruptions, epidemics, and tyranny. It also emphasises the literature that Icelanders have produced since ancient days, which has kept their spirits high, shaped the nation and cemented their belief in the right to sovereignty in the face of hardships.
ÍSLANDSKLOKKAN, the nationalist poetical work of the Nobel-prize-winning author, is a prime example of great storytelling. Here you will find social and patriotic pathos and laments combined with humour, sarcasm, and delightful poetry.
