Her eru eingir keðiligir partar at leypa um, og Bengtsson er so smittandi stuttligur, at umframt tær góðu frásagnirnar, situr tú sum lesari í skellilátri. ... The story of the The Red Worm awakens the Wiking world just as it was in the tenth century. The book is estimated to be the best historical novel ever written. The hero of the story is Orm. We follow him from the time he starts his journey as a young man until he is an old man, full of experiences. Experiences which are far reaching. Through be book he is enslaved as well as getting married into a royal line. The journey for might and wealth takes him to England, to the Moors of Spain, to the Kievan Rus and continues along the rivers to Constantinopel. In high seas as well as on floorboards splashing on calm waters we hear stories of Harald Bluetooth, of the Jomsvikings, of the fierce struggle to Christianize the Northmen and many, many other things. Bengtsson is a highly skilled narrator and the book has cosistently received excellent reviews. There are no boring bits to skip and the author is so contagiously funny that in adittion to receiving some great storytelling the reader finds himself laughing loudly at times.
