Leading in the Age of AI: A Board and Executive Guide to Strategy, Governance and Transformation

Artificial intelligence is no longer primarily a technology issue. It is a leadership issue. As AI rapidly reshapes competition, decision-making, customer experience and the way organisations operate, boards and executive teams face a new set of responsibilities. The challenge is no longer simply whether to adopt AI, but how to turn it into measurable business value while managing the risks, governance requirements and organisational transformation that come with it.

Leading in the Age of AI is a practical guide for board members, CEOs, executive teams and business leaders who need to understand what AI means for strategy, leadership and governance without becoming technology specialists.

The book explores the questions that leadership teams should be asking now: Where can AI create genuine competitive advantage? Who should be accountable for AI? What should the board oversee? How can organisations move from scattered experiments to systematic value creation? How should AI maturity and AI literacy be measured? And how can leaders ensure that governance, risk management and responsible use develop at the same pace as adoption?

Rather than focusing on individual AI tools or short-lived technology trends, the book approaches AI from the perspective of leadership and organisational transformation. It provides practical frameworks for assessing AI maturity, strengthening governance, developing organisational capabilities and building a structured path from experimentation to measurable results.

The central message is simple: AI cannot be outsourced to the CIO, the IT department or external consultants. Its opportunities and risks belong on the agenda of the CEO, the executive team and the board.

For leaders navigating one of the most significant business transformations of our time, Leading in the Age of AI provides a practical framework for asking the right questions, making better decisions and leading the transition with clarity and confidence.

About the Author:

Harri Lauslahti is a Finnish business executive, board professional, author and entrepreneur with more than 30 years of experience in leadership, strategy, financial services, insurance, banking, technology and organisational transformation.

During his career, he has served as CEO, senior executive and board member in major financial and service organisations, giving him first-hand experience of leading companies through strategic and technological change.

Lauslahti is the founder of AIRater Ltd, an independent AI maturity and AI literacy assessment company helping boards, executive teams and organisations understand their readiness to lead and govern artificial intelligence. His work focuses particularly on the intersection of AI, strategy, governance, leadership capability and organisational transformation.

He holds an M.Sc. in Economics from Turku School of Economics and has complemented his executive experience with studies in technology and AI leadership.

His approach to artificial intelligence is deliberately business-led rather than technology-led: organisations should not adopt AI simply because the technology exists. Leaders need to understand where it creates value, what capabilities their organisations require, how risks should be governed and how progress can be measured.

Leading in the Age of AI brings together these perspectives into a practical guide for boards, CEOs and executive teams navigating the transition into the AI era.
