"Embracing and working with our strengths teaches us to thrive with ADHD."
Speaking about an autism or ADHD diagnosis within the workplace can feel daunting, exposing and scary. However, when we advocate for ourselves within our work setting, we are enabling the support, care and accommodations we deserve.
Working with - and no longer - against our brains means we can excel more in our careers without the burnout and exhaustion that typically comes with neurodiversity. Often the way we work can look different to others, but that doesn't mean it's less effective. The more we talk about this and allow different options to be implemented, the healthier, happier and more productive we feel within our work environment.
This week’s guest, Samantha Hiew is the Director of ADHD Girls, a company founded with a social mission to empower girls and women with ADHD through effective advocacy, education and specialists’ insights.
With a background in healthcare communications and a PhD in Cancer Research, Samantha is passionate about helping individuals with ADHD access employment and training organisations to provide the support they need to thrive in their circumstances, thereby increasing happiness and wellbeing and improving productivity.
During this episode of The ADHD Women's Wellbeing Podcast, Kate and Samantha spoke about:
• Feeling alone after an ADHD diagnosis • The power of anecdotal experiences • The benefits of being around others like you and community • Sam's autism diagnosis and her surprise • ADHD and Autism often going hand in hand • Needing to have a passion, fulfilment to stave off depression • Sam's mission with ADHD diagnosis Recognition Responsive Euphoria • and what it is and looks like • Navigating ADHD and Neurodiveristy in the workplace • How employers can boost their ADHD employee's confidence • Advocating for yourself in the workplace • Embracing our strengths and interests to thrive with ADHD
