The Black Dawn series honors anarchist traditions and follows the great Octavia E. Butler’s legacy of speculative fiction with themes that do not reinforce dependency on oppressive forces (the state, police, capitalism, elected officials) and express the values of antiracism, feminism, anticolonialism, and anticapitalism. Through its creation of alternate possibilities, speculative fiction is the perfect tool for imagining how to bring forth new, just and free worlds. The stories published in the series center queerness, Blackness, and antifascism, and celebrate voices previously disenfranchised, all of whom are essential in establishing a society in which no one is oppressed or exploited.
