Northwest Arkansas 2017 - a former Police Chief murders a man in cold blood then takes his family out for a nice dinner. Grant Hardin, a man who was relieved of his duties as Police Chief for harassing and threatening the civilians of Gateway, Arkansas was arrested for the murder of James Appleton. Later and to everyone’s surprise, Grant Hardin was charged with another violent crime from 20 years prior. Grant's evil deeds and ways earned him the name “The Devil in the Ozarks.” Grant Hardin was due to likely spend the rest of his natural life behind prison walls but that all changed in May of 2025 when the Devil himself walked out and away from the Arkansas Department of Corrections’ North Central Unit in Calico Rock. 30 minutes later a national fugitive manhunt ensued.

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania June 24, 1975 - 15 year old Edna Christine Thorne went missing after visiting the horse stables near her home. That day she asked her sister is she wanted to go visit the horse with her, but she declined. Edna was last seen leaving the Tioga Street horse stables. Like so many cases in the 70s, the police initially treated Edna’s case as a runaway case but eventually concluded this to be unlikely. Authorities now suspect that Edna Thorne was abducted and likely killed. Police worked diligently and swiftly with their investigation. Evidence brought them to question the actions, movements, and motivations of one man in particular.  The Gilgo Beach Killer, The Long Island Serial Killer, L.I.S.K., and the list of names, and monikers goes on and on. These are all names given to an unidentified serial killer that is responsible for four murders, maybe eleven unsolved homicides, and likely the number could be higher. These names refer to a series of murders that took place from 1996 to 2011 in which the remains of eleven people were found on the South Shore of Long Island, New York. From the public’s perspective, this all started when Shannon Gilbert went missing in the early morning hours of May 1, 2010. Her disappearance triggered the finding of four sets of remains off of Ocean Parkway at Gilgo Beach. These victims became known as the Gilgo Four. By May of 2011 police had discovered six more sets of remains in the area. But the truth is that this nightmare started long before Shannon disappeared. 

 

In 2023, an architect then 59-year old, Rex Heuermann was arrested and initially charged with three of the murders. Just this month he was charged with a seventh homicide. This week in the Garage, we talk about what the police found in Rex Heuermann’s home, specifically a planning document. This is a kill document, one that many are calling Rex Heuermann’s Blue Print for Murder.

We have all heard of Jack the Ripper, there is probably no more famous unsolved case invovling a serial killer. But nearly 70 years after Scotland Yard searched for the Ripper police had one of the largest manhunts in London's history. The search for the killer dubbed Jack the Stripper. This Jack was killing prostitutes and leaving their naked bodies in the River Thames and in the cities alleyways. This Jack did not taunt the police by writing letters and laughing at them on paper, no he simply gave them another body. Tonight we take the flying garage ship to England and review this strange cold case.
