The Alcásser Murders

In the early afternoon of August 26th, 1995, 23-year-old Heather Teague went sunbathing on Newburgh Beach in Henderson County, Kentucky. This is a thin strip of beach on the shore of the Ohio River. Twenty-nine years later, Heather has still not been found. 

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the disappearance of Heather Teague. The police have had no shortage of suspects over the years. Their main suspect matched the description provided by a man across the river who watched Heather's abduction through his telescope.

Heather Teague

Marcus Rutledge was a young father who went missing in June 1998, shortly before he was supposed to graduate from college. Foul play was suspected from the beginning, and Marcus’s family thought he might have gotten involved with dangerous people in the months leading up to his death, although those individuals remain unidentified.

Then, later, when his good friend was found murdered, it deepened the mystery of what happened to both men. Were the two incidents related, and if so, why were Marcus and his friend targeted?

Marcus Rutledge

The body of Mary Rogers, known by many New Yorkers as the “beautiful cigar girl,” was found in the Hudson River in July 1841. There was evidence she had been beaten before she died, but over a century later, her death remains unsolved.

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss the death of Mary Rogers. Both theories and suspects abound in this case. Some newspapers at the time even named people as Mary's killer. There are supposed deathbed confessions, and the theories range from wild to semi-plausible. Even Edgar Allen Poe is rumored to have been involved, and he did write a story based on Mary's death.

Mary Rogers

Kate Brown and Carnell Sledge were close friends who were murdered in broad daylight while sitting together on a park bench. Six years later, the killer has not been caught.

William Smolinski Jr

Jennifer Wix and her daughter Adrianna have been missing since March 2004. Twenty-one years later, they still have not been found. Authorities consider Jennifer’s former boyfriend a person of interest. He claimed to have seen her get into a white car with an unknown driver, but investigators have been unable to verify his story.

In March 1998, Father Alfred Kunz was murdered inside St. Michael Catholic Church in Dane, Wisconsin. Many believe he was murdered because he had knowledge of sexual misconduct within the church, while others say he was murdered because of allegedly inappropriate relationships with female parishioners.

But, one by one, the police have ruled people out using DNA found at the crime scene. The theories in the case range from greed, inappropriate relationships, to the possibility that Kunz was about to go public with a list of priests who had committed sexual offenses.

The Murder of Tristan Dilley

14-year-old Jeremy Bright disappeared in August 1986 while attending a fair in Coos County, Oregon. Decades later, Jeremy has still not been found. Although no one has come forward, Jeremy’s family and the police believe someone knows what happened to him, and that his remains could be found in Coos County. 

Join Mike and Gibby as they discuss Jeremy Bright's disappearance. Some details of what Jeremy was doing the day he disappeared are known, but there are gaps in time. They have had at least one very solid person of interest, a man named Terry Lee Steinhoff. Steinhoff babysat Jeremy when he was younger, and witnesses reported that Jeremy was sitting in Steinhoff's truck on the day he disappeared. But many other theories have been floated in this case.

Jeremy Bright

We're bringing you two unsolved cases in this episode. The first is the 1975 murders at a VA hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Over a six week period, a large number of patients experienced respiratory attacks, some that proved to be fatal. The FBI was called in and pinned the murders on two ICU nurses who had recently immigrated from the Philippines.

The second case is the murder of James Adamski, who went missing in the early hours of Halloween in 1982. James was an 18-year-old senior who attended a Halloween party at a bar and never made it home. His body was later found in a remote field by some hunters.
