Trick or Treat

She heard someone emphatically reply, “no,” but she thought the person sounded like a man impersonating a woman. The supposed trick-or-treater had their hand inside a paper bag, which they raised and pointed at Peter. A single gunshot echoed through the house, and by the time Betty got to the front door, her husband was lying on his back with his hands clutched to a wound that was bleeding profusely on his chest…
