51-year-old Ronald Platt was thrilled to be invited boating with his dear friend David Davis. Davis was a semi-retired Canadian businessman who lived in Woodham Walter, a village about 80 kilometers northeast of London in the English county of Essex, with his young wife and two beautiful daughters. The pair set sail in the English Channel near the Devon resort town of Torquay on Davis’ 24-foot yacht The Lady Jane. Ronald was never seen alive again.
