James Alan Nelson was born in December 1911 in Las Cruces, New Mexico Territory about a month before New Mexico became a state.

He wrote 11 short sci-fi stories that were published from 1948 to 1955 and one episode of the TV series Tales of Tomorrow which aired in 1952.
