Thymen Arensman saved a disappointing Tour de France with two memorable stage wins in the mountains, but Carlos Rodriguez crashed out when his bid for a high finish looked like it had stalled on the cusp of the top ten.

With Dave Brailsford returning to the Tour after a stint at Manchester United Football Club it became apparent just how far the team has drifted since the days when they dominated the race, winning seven editions in eight years between 2012 and 2019.

Geraint Thomas is approaching retirement as a rider but could he be the man to galvanise the team off the bike? Or is it simply a case that Ineos have been overtaken by a handful of teams who have been quicker at identifying and recruiting new talent and more ruthless in calling time on riders who've gone over the summit in their careers?

Before that, Lionel, Graham and Brian recap the week's racing as the cycling season splinters across Europe in this period between the Tour de France and Vuelta a España. And in the final part we hear from journalist Sophie Smith about her trip to the north of Norway to cover the Arctic Race.

We recap the racing from the Clasica San Sebastian to the Tour of Poland plus events in northern Spain and France. Then we look back to the Tour de France and get Brian's perspective on Jonas Vingegaard's performance. The Dane is the outstanding favourite for a Pogačar-free Vuelta but is it time for him to accept that the Tour is out of his reach unless the Slovenian is absent?

S13 Ep103: We’ll Always Have Paris | Stage 21 | Tour de France 2025

All roads lead to Alloa as the first stretch of Tour d'Écosse stages come to a conclusion with a trip to see the Wasps take on Clyde in the shadow of the beautiful Ochil Hills.

The roll out is from the site of the West Lothian Cycle Circuit at Linlithgow. Lionel meets Matt Ball, one of the driving forces behind the creation of the circuit about how he hopes it will inspire generations of young cyclists and give riders of all abilities somewhere to meet, ride and race.

Then it's a short final stage via Falkirk, Stenhousemuir and Stirling before the last stretch to Alloa in time for kick-off and the pre-match specialty, a Scotch pie on a roll. Yes, you read that correctly – a pie in a bread roll.

The Tour d'Écosse resumes next time with the final run of stages taking Lionel and Simon all the way to Dingwall, home of Ross County.
