I’m so excited to kick off our new season next week. As always, I’ll be sitting down with extraordinary women who have taken a risk and followed their hearts, minds, and instincts to make pivots that have changed their lives for the better. 
 
 
 
This season, we’re focusing on why women pivot and the nonlinear paths that women often take. Because…drumroll please…I pivoted again. Last fall, I dove back into politics—my once-abandoned career—joining the Kamala Harris presidential campaign. It led me to working full-time in my old field, living in a swing state, away from my family, and working around the clock. And, despite the outcome, I loved it. I had doubts about whether I could still do it, now as a mother of three, and stepping back into that world felt like whiplash and familiar all at the same time. Now, I’m entering this season in a different headspace. The world feels different, but I keep coming back to the importance of sharing these incredible stories. So, in season 4, we’re making extra space for those twists and turns that are just part of life - and betting on yourself.

We’re kicking off Season 4 of She Pivots with podcast royalty - Armchair Expert co-creator and co-host, Monica Padman! 
 
 
 
I’ve always marveled at Monica’s ability at getting her guests to open up. But her own story is one that I think is so important to lift up. Monica didn’t just stumble into her current role. She started as a babysitter and assistant for Dax Shepard (her now co-host) and Kristin Bell, all while pursuing her dream of being an actress. Once the idea for Armchair Expert emerged, Monica leaned into the opportunity, embracing the unexpected, while also staying aligned to who she is at her core. Her story showcases the importance of assistants, who bring a massive skill set to their roles and are often the best at building something from the ground up, and the reality that taking a path you didn’t plan can actually lead you to where you’re meant to be.

Monica Padman: The Rise of the Armchair Expert Host

I am absolutely thrilled to debut the incredible story of Yvonne Wells for the first time ever on a podcast. Yvonne is an 85-year-old folk artist, who creates the most striking quilts that depict stories from the Civil Rights Movement and the Bible. Her work has been featured in the Smithsonian, the International Quilt Museum, and at the White House. But this late-in-life renaissance was never an expected pivot for her. In fact, she didn’t begin quilting until she was almost 40, having spent her life teaching physical education. I was blown away by her story - from being at the heart of the Civil Rights Movement in Tuscaloosa, Alabama to finally accepting her title as artist in her post-retirement life.

Cate Luzio: Founder of Luminary Gets Personal

This week’s episode with Jodie Sweetin is a pinch-me moment, as someone who grew up watching (almost exclusively) Full House. Jodie is an author, producer, counselor, and most notably, the actress who has graced our screens as Stephanie Tanner in the iconic shows, Full House and Fuller House. Jodie experienced the full highs and lows of a career by the age of 13, when Full House ended, leading to a decades long struggle with addiction. Not only did she overcome her addiction, but she took her experience and turned it into helping others, becoming a sobriety counselor and working at a drug treatment facility.

Jodie Sweetin: Full House Star on Overcoming Addiction

In light of recent news, I decided to re-release our episode with Tetiana Poudel, the Ukrainian woman who returned home to help with the war effort. Over these past few months, it has felt difficult to grasp onto actions that feel meaningful when it seems like everything is out of our hands. While this episode won’t repair what is happening, I hope it will give a face and a voice to the war.
 
 
 
In this emotional episode, you’ll hear Tetiana recount her personal experience as a Ukrainian civilian volunteer working to help her father’s unit in the war. She explains her decision to leave her job at Spotify in Silicon Valley to return home to her family and help in whatever way she could. Now, she has started a venture capital firm, founded to source and nurture pre-seed stage defense tech companies with an impact on Ukraine’s victory.

From the Archives: Tetiana Poudel: Returning to Ukraine

This week, I am thrilled to share our very special LIVE episode with Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer from our conversation at Sixth & I in Washington, D.C. Governor Whitmer first took public office at only 32 years old. During her 22 years of public service, Governor Whitmer has always led with grace - and a whole lot of grit. On this episode, Governor Whitmer reflects on her experience in the “sandwich generation,” taking care of her newborn and her mother, all while starting her political career in the Michigan legislature. (She even engages in some fun banter with one of her daughters who was in the audience!) She also shares some important wisdom from her book, True Gretch (now available in a young adult edition!), including the importance of being yourself.

Candid Convo: Carolyn Tisch Blodgett: Gotham FC One Year Later

Laura Modi’s decision to walk away from her career in tech and found Bobbie, her transformative baby formula company, came from personal experiences–and struggles–with feeding her own children. She set out with a goal to not just create a better baby formula, but to create a better conversation: one where moms could make the best choice for their families without guilt, without judgment, and with full confidence that their babies were getting the nutrition they needed. As a mom who struggled through the breastfeeding process, I’m personally thankful for Laura’s willingness to work to change the conversation and deliver quality, FDA-approved organic baby formula.
