Real-Time Crime

One of the most anticipated films of the year, “Michael” hits theaters this weekend and previews are already showing a record number of people filling theaters for a musical biopic. The reviews, however, have not been kind to the film. The biggest issue, that the movie is basically an extended music video of Jackson’s early hits and completely sidesteps the allegations and charges of child sexual abuse that plagued the singer for decades. There’s an explanation for that omission and a heavy hint that there’s more to come in a potential sequel. The question is whether the film is too much of a fairy tale, complete with a happily ever after ending… a question that has even divided members of Jackson’s own family.

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos is under fire for not being honest about his past work history, including 8 reported suspensions while working as an officer in El Paso. Among the allegations, that he nearly beat a handcuffed suspect to death with a flashlight. A process to remove the sheriff could begin as early as mid-May, as the investigation into Guthrie’s disappearance continues.

Two doctoral students at the University of South Florida went missing within one hour of each other and police are now asking for the public’s help. 27-year-old Zamil Limon and Nahida Bristy were last seen separately on and near campus on the morning of April 16th. Death Row Inmate Delivers a Final Blow With His Final Words

We are waiting for word from the courts, after DNA that attorneys say could exonerate convicted murderer James Duckett, came back as inconclusive. Duckett has been on death row for nearly 40 years for the rape and fatal drowning of an 11-year-old girl. His attorneys are arguing for more time, so another lab can examine the results and give a conclusive finding before his scheduled execution, originally set for tomorrow, March 31st.
