In June 2005, in the quiet town of Benejúzar, Spain, a 51-year-old woman named María del Carmen García was approached at a bus stop by a man who asked her: "How's your daughter?" But this was no ordinary man, and that was no innocent question. It was "Pincelito," the 63-year-old man who raped her 13-year-old daughter, Veronica, at knifepoint. A man who should have been behind bars, yet was somehow free, drinking wine at a bar, and now taunting the mother of his victim. So, María bought a canister of gasoline, poured it over Pincelito, and lit a match. Eleven days later, he was dead - and Maria was arrested and convicted of murder.

The act sent shockwaves through Spain. To some, she was a criminal who crossed an unforgivable line. To others, she was a mother pushed past her breaking point—a vigilante delivering justice when the system refused to. To this day, this devastating case remains one of Spain’s most fiercely debated cases of vigilantism and continues to force uncomfortable questions: When a mother takes the law into her own hands, is it a crime—or a calling? Is it justice worth praising, or is it revenge warranting punishment? Is vigilantism a moral imperative or a dangerous precedent?

She was supposed to care for and nurture new life, but instead, she delivered death. In post-war Tokyo, Miyuki Ishikawa—one of the most prolific serial killers in Japanese history—was a respected midwife, trusted by desperate mothers and overwhelmed families. But behind her professional smile lurked something incredibly depraved. Over the course of several years in the 1940s, Miyuki deliberately allowed over 100 infants in her "care" to die of neglect, starvation, and hypothermia. Then, she charged grieving parents for the privilege of secretly killing their babies. Beneath the glittering facade of New Orleans high society in the early 1800s, Madame Delphine LaLaurie's lavish mansion concealed one of the most gruesome crimes in American history. Behind locked attic doors, enslaved men and women were chained, mutilated, starved, and grotesquely experimented on for Madame LaLaurie's sadistic pleasure. Some victims had their bones reset to take on non-human form, others were flayed, disemboweled, or fitted with crude surgical contraptions. 

This wasn’t punishment: this was depravity wrapped in silk and perfumed with civility, masquerading as refinement while it feasted on human suffering. To this day, locals say the mansion is cursed. Visitors report cold spots, disembodied cries, and the faint clatter of chains dragging across the floorboards - echoes of suffering too violent to stay buried…

Inspired by Gary Ridgway and Ted Bundy, serial killer Joel Rifkin modeled his victimology and body disposable methods like a grotesque homage: limbs in cement, heads in paint cans, bodies dumped with calculated precision. For four years in the late 1980s/early 90s, while living with his mother in the heart of suburban Long Island, NY, Joel Rifkin hunted women on the margins. Joel, a bullied outcast with a high IQ and a severely damaged frontal lobe, didn’t explode overnight. He eroded.

First came the fantasies. Then came the reality of 17 victims whom he strangled and dismembered with an X-Acto knife. Joel blended in — just another quiet man with a sedan, a part time job, and a taste for sadism. This wasn’t some obvious "monster" lurking in the shadows. This was a depraved serial killer next door, hiding in plain sight, mowing the same lawns your kids play on. On May 13, 2025, 22-year-old influencer Valeria Márquez was executed on TikTok livestream — shot point-blank by a man disguised as a delivery driver inside her own beauty salon in Zapopan, Jalisco, Mexico. Viewers watched in horror as she clutched her chest and stomach before collapsing, still holding a stuffed animal as she perished on camera. 

Horrifyingly, the video footage went viral, and the calculated nature of the hit left Mexico (and the rest of the world) stunned. Investigators are continuing to explore whether the murder was cartel-related, a personal betrayal, or both. Rumors point to a possible setup by an employee or even Valeria’s best friend, who allegedly urged Valeria to stay at the salon just as the killer arrived. The most widespread theory, however, ties Valeria’s death to her ex-boyfriend, Ricardo Ruiz Velazco (aka “Doble R”), a high-ranking member of the Cartel Jalisco Nueva Generación (CJNG) cartel. 

One thing is certain: her execution was not random. Valeria’s murder now stands as a devastating emblem of Mexico’s brutal crossroads - where femicide, cartel violence, and institutional failure collide with devastating consequences.
