In June 2005, in the quiet town of Benejúzar, Spain, 51-year-old María del Carmen García walked into a bar, canister of gasoline in hand, and doused a 63-year-old man standing at the counter. Then, she struck a match. Eleven days later, the man was dead from his injuries — and María was hailed as a hero by thousands. Because years earlier, that same man had raped Maria's 13-year-old daughter at knifepoint, and now she was delivering her own brand of justice. 

To some, María was considered a dangerous criminal guilty of first degree murder who crossed an unforgivable line by taking a human life. To others, she was a mother pushed past her breaking point, and an admirable vigilante stepping in where the system had failed. To this day, this shocking case remains one of Spain’s most fiercely debated examples of vigilantism and continues to force uncomfortable questions about the morality of vigilantism and when, or if, taking the law into your own hands is ever justified.

She was supposed to care for and nurture new life, but instead, she delivered death. In post-war Tokyo, Miyuki Ishikawa—one of the most prolific serial killers in Japanese history—was a respected midwife, trusted by desperate mothers and overwhelmed families. But behind her professional smile lurked something incredibly depraved. Over the course of several years in the 1940s, Miyuki deliberately allowed over 100 infants in her "care" to die of neglect, starvation, and hypothermia. Then, she charged grieving parents for the privilege of secretly killing their babies. Beneath the glittering facade of New Orleans high society in the early 1800s, Madame Delphine LaLaurie's lavish mansion concealed one of the most gruesome crimes in American history. Behind locked attic doors, enslaved men and women were chained, mutilated, starved, and grotesquely experimented on for Madame LaLaurie's sadistic pleasure. Some victims had their bones reset to take on non-human form, others were flayed, disemboweled, or fitted with crude surgical contraptions. 

This wasn’t punishment: this was depravity wrapped in silk and perfumed with civility, masquerading as refinement while it feasted on human suffering. To this day, locals say the mansion is cursed. Visitors report cold spots, disembodied cries, and the faint clatter of chains dragging across the floorboards - echoes of suffering too violent to stay buried…

Inspired by Gary Ridgway and Ted Bundy, serial killer Joel Rifkin modeled his victimology and body disposable methods like a grotesque homage: limbs in cement, heads in paint cans, bodies dumped with calculated precision. For four years in the late 1980s/early 90s, while living with his mother in the heart of suburban Long Island, NY, Joel Rifkin hunted women on the margins. Joel, a bullied outcast with a high IQ and a severely damaged frontal lobe, didn’t explode overnight. He eroded.

First came the fantasies. Then came the reality of 17 victims whom he strangled and dismembered with an X-Acto knife. Joel blended in — just another quiet man with a sedan, a part time job, and a taste for sadism. This wasn’t some obvious "monster" lurking in the shadows. This was a depraved serial killer next door, hiding in plain sight, mowing the same lawns your kids play on. Introducing: Girl On Gore by Investigator Slater

In July 2022, a 27-year-old single mom from England named Shaye Groves, was convicted of murdering her boyfriend, 25-year-old Frankie Fitzgerald. Shaye had an obsessive fascination with serial killers, true crime documentaries, and r*pe fantasy, and her walls were adorned with framed pictures of notorious serial killers whom she "admired." 

Horrifyingly, after discovering some messages on Frankie's phone, Shaye went on to brutally stab him 17 times. In the aftermath of the murder, Shaye then attempted to fabricate a narrative that portrayed herself as a victim of sexual violence. She even went so far as to manipulate/edit intimate video footage from her bedroom to make previously agreed-upon "consensual non-consensual" (CNC) sex acts appear like assault. This is not a clear cut case involving a crime of passion. It’s about a disturbing fixation that metastasized, and a woman who walked the line between fandom and bloodlust…and then crossed it with a blade.
