Seeking the "spirit" of the Law, as God intended from the start, is more crucial than becoming righteous for the sake of adherence. Jesus challenges us to sincerely keep God's commandments. He impresses his command of love, mercy, and reconciliation as the supreme Lawgiver, even greater than Moses.
