The Afterlife (Part 1)

When a beautiful co-ed is brutally murdered on a popular hiking trail in Prescott National Forest in the summer of 1987, authorities are stumped on who the killer could be. The investigation drags on for decades until finally advances in DNA technology link a serial predator to multiple cases of sexual assault and murder. This is the second of two episodes covering the murder of Cathy Sposito and the identification of Bryan Scott Bennett.

In a matter of four months between late 2007 and early 2008, drifter Gary Michael Hilton went on a killing rampage in national parklands across three states on America’s East Coast. He left a 4-victim body count for authorities to piece together. He used the cover and isolation of park trails and campgrounds to stalk and murder his victims. However, even after his arrest, authorities became convinced that his murderous crimes could go back much further than anyone ever thought.

The Hitchhiker

The case of who murdered Julie Williams and Laura Winans at their campsite by a peaceful mountain stream inside Shenandoah National Park in 1996 remained a mystery for almost 30 years. The brutality of this couple’s slaying baffled state and federal investigators and several key suspects emerged over the years, but no arrests were made. In June 2024, the FBI and US Attorney's Office for the Western District of Virginia made a shocking announcement. The killer has been identified.
