Nighttime

On October 18, 2025, 25-year-old Eli Wood was last seen by his family on a video call that ended just prior to midnight. Something they did daily as a way to stay connected while Eli was attending university in Kitchener. Hours later, firefighters responded to a fire in Eli’s apartment.

But Eli wasn’t there… and hasn’t been seen since.

Police say the fire was arson and that foul play is suspected in Eli’s disappearance, but months later, little more than that has been revealed.

Important questions like what happened that night? why was the fire considered targeted? and where is Eli? all remain unanswered as his family pleads for answers, community searches continue, and police say an investigation remains active.

In this episode of the Canadian Gothic, Madelayne and Jordan discuss what we know and what we don’t know about the disappearance of Eli Wood.

In April 2017, 59-year-old Debbie Ann Hutchinson vanished from Sydney, Nova Scotia. Days later, her white Kia Magentis was found burning in a wooded area not far from her home.

In this episode, we are joined by Debbie’s estranged daughter, Colette Deveaux to discuss her mother’s unsolved homicide, and the complicated grief that followed.

Collette shares what it is like to mourn a parent while also carrying painful memories from childhood, and how Debbie’s murder forced her into an impossible emotional position: seeking justice for her mother while still reckoning with trauma caused by that same relationship.

Where is Emily Bailey - Part 5 - Recent Developments with Ben

Shortly after the release of the previous episode in this series, I connected with someone very close to Emily Bailey’s story. He offered to share startling new details that may shed further light on what happened in the days leading up to her disappearance.

Brandon Hunter is the father of one of Emily’s daughters. Listeners will remember his name from earlier episodes, as he was the person who reported Emily missing to Hamilton Police.

In our conversation, Brandon explains that he had been in regular contact with Emily before she disappeared. He also shares information Emily told him in those final days, information that ultimately led him to show up at Jeff’s door shortly after the missing person report was filed.

In this episode we are joined by Brandon Hunter for a revealing discussion about the disappearance of his close friend, and the mother of his child, Emily Bailey.

Shortly after the release of the prior episode in this series the show was contacted by someone claiming to be a close friend of Emily's named Nicole Margerison. Nicole offered to fill in many of the blanks related to Emily's last known whereabouts and possibly shed some light on the circumstances related to her disappearance.

Margerison was one of the last people to see Emily, was polygraphed by Hamilton police, and provided investigators with some disturbing information regarding the man she last saw Emily with.

In this episode Nicole and I will discuss many new details related to the still unexplained disappearance of her friend Emily Bailey.
