Introducing My Life of Crime Season 1

Erin Moriarty takes us to Fall River, Massachusetts, where one of the most sensational crimes of the 19th century took place. The crime inspired the dark nursery rhyme “Lizzie Borden took an ax and gave her mother 40 whacks. When she saw what she had done, she gave her father 41.”
Despite what everyone thinks they know, there is a stunning verdict in the case. In part 1 of this unusual road trip, Erin takes us to the scene of the crime - the house where the murders took place is now The Lizzie Borden Bed and Breakfast/Museum. We learn about the Borden family and what happened on that fateful day in August of 1892. It was a brutal crime scene and there are actual death photos hanging in the house. Erin will spend the night here. She is looking for a motive, evidence and maybe a ghost or two.

Author Cara Robertson has written a fascinating book about Lizzie’s trial and takes us back in time to the justice system of the last century. Cara’s book is written right from the court record. The prosecution has a strong case: Lizzie was home at the time of the murders, she burned a dress and she may have had a motive. The jury deliberated for 90 minutes and the verdict will surprise you.

The Family Business

Patrick Flaherty was 22 years old when he took a BB gun and robbed convenience stores to pay his rent. His take was $459 dollars. No one was injured. That was in 1999. Flaherty was sentenced to 40 years and remains in prison. Some murderers get less time. Those who kill are often paroled long before their sentences are served. But Patrick Flaherty must serve almost his entire sentence, 34 years, that is, unless someone hears his plea for a second chance. In the years he has been in prison, Patrick has turned his life around. He has translated thousands of pages into Braille and is currently on track to get his MBA. Patrick is soft spoken and articulate. Should he be released early? His victims argue the psychological wounds they suffered cannot be ignored. We look at the debate and the staggering cost to keep him locked up. Does the punishment fit the crime?

Evil Next Door

In May of 2019, Jennifer Dulos, a 52-year-old Connecticut mother of five, suddenly disappeared. Authorities began to suspect her estranged husband Fotis Dulos, who had started an affair with another woman. The couple had been in a costly divorce battle and Fotis had lost physical custody of their children.
