Every now and again, I’ll find a story that’s just really upsetting to me. Now, obviously a lot of the stories I cover are all quite distressing. But today’s story, which is about a missing hiker named Mike Turner – it just really upset me. It actually made it really hard to record this episode. So, consider this your warning that I personally believe this is a very upsetting story, but an important story that we would not be covering if there wasn’t some real weight behind it. And I think the moral of this story, ultimately, is you really need to treasure your family while they’re still around.

Closer to God

A seven-year-old boy cowered in the closet of his family’s suburban home in Florida. He was buried beneath jackets and sports gear, listening to screams coming from down the hall. When they stopped, the silence that followed was far worse. Then heavy footsteps approached and a shadow passed beneath the door. The boy braced for it to burst open, thinking he was about to be found, but the shadow moved on. The boy held his breath until he heard the front door to his house open and shut. The boy wanted nothing more than to stay where he was, but his mother and brother were in danger. So he swallowed his fear, pushed through the coats, and stepped out. The house was silent and still, no broken furniture, no blood – at least until he reached the bedroom. There was a figure on the bed. The sight was too much to process, and he immediately looked away. His gaze fell on a phone lying on the blood-soaked sheet, its screen glowing, and then a voice rose from the speakers… Someone was on the line.

Internet Booby Traps

In 1992, in a small town in Michigan, a woman decided to go for a walk in the woods with her five dogs. So she and her animals left the house she was staying in and marched across the backyard into the nearby forest, and they began walking. A few hours later, one of those five dogs suddenly came bounding out of the forest back towards the house, all by itself. When the woman's family noticed the animal, they knew something was wrong, so they rushed into the woods to see what was going on. What they would find out there was horrific, and it would become one of the most sensational crime stories to ever come out of Michigan’s remote and mysterious Upper Peninsula.

Something Is Out There

At 4 a.m. on August 28th, 2015, a phone rang inside the home of a man who lived in a little town in rural India. It was the police calling, and they needed this man to get up immediately and lead them to a very particular spot in a nearby forest. The man didnt need to ask any questions, he knew exactly what this was about. Two hours later he was walking down a sloped muddy path in those woods with a horde of police behind him. When he reached the bottom of this path, he stopped, looked around for a moment, and then when he saw the mango tree, he knew he was in the right spot. He raised his hand and pointed, “there he said, dig there.”

The Entertainer

On a cold morning in the winter of 1984, the manager of a popular fast food joint in eastern Pennsylvania, slowly made his way up to the front door of the restaurant to unlock it. But when he grabbed the handle of the door, he found it was already unlocked. The manager was instantly worried, but he told himself that it was probably just one of the workers from the night before. They must have just forgot to lock up.
