Kids Bible Stories

Mark 7:9–23

Jesus continues His conversation with the Pharisees and teachers of the law, showing how human traditions can become excuses for disobeying God. Through the example of Corban, Jesus reveals that something can sound religious while still hiding a heart that is far from Him.

Then Jesus turns everyone’s attention from what is outside the body to what is within.

In this episode, kids will learn:

 God’s Word has greater authority than human traditions.

 A good activity should never become an excuse for disobedience.

 Biblical “heart” is not the heart organ in our chest and is explained.

 Our circumstances may reveal anger, envy, pride, or other sin already within us- kid examples used to help them grasp this.

 Everyone who repents and trusts in Jesus is forgiven and made right with God.

Big idea

Sin begins within our hearts, and only Jesus can forgive and cleanse our sinful hearts

A Note for Parents

Because families listen with children of different ages and at different stages of development, Verse 21 has been adapted with young listeners in mind. Parents may wish to read the complete passage below and explain its terms in the way they believe is most appropriate for their family:

“For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.” —Mark 7:21–23

#426: Where Does Sin Really Begin? - Mark . Part . 25

Scripture: Mark 7:1–8, Romans 13

The Pharisees and teachers of the law looked devoted to God. They knew Scripture, followed many religious traditions, and appeared very obedient. But when they criticized Jesus’ disciples for eating without performing a ceremonial washing, Jesus revealed what was truly happening beneath their outward appearance: they honored God with their words, but their hearts were far from Him.

In this episode, children will learn :

1. That good-looking actions do not always flow from a heart that loves God. 

2. We’ll explore the difference between real fruit and “pretend fruit” 

3. Discover how God’s commands show us what love looks like. 

4. Remember that we obey God because He loved us first—not to earn His love or impress others.

5. We still obey even if we don't feel like it.

#425: Can We Look Like We Love God but Have Hearts Far From Him? - Mark . Part . 24

Scripture: Mark 6:45–56

After feeding 5,000 people, Jesus sends His disciples across the lake. When strong winds leave them struggling in the darkness, Jesus comes to them—walking on the water!

In this episode, kids will discover that Jesus is the powerful King and Lord over creation. We’ll also learn that He is a patient, faithful Shepherd who cares for His people even when they are afraid or slow to understand. When fear comes, we can remember who Jesus is, look back on His faithfulness, and ask Him to help us trust Him.

#424: Can I Trust Jesus When I’m Afraid? - Mark. Part . 23

Scripture: Mark 6:30–44; Psalm 23:1; John 10:11 

Jesus and his disciples are searching for a quiet place to rest—but thousands of people follow them. When Jesus sees the crowd, he has deep compassion because they are like sheep without a shepherd.

In this episode, children will hear how Jesus miraculously feeds more than five thousand people with only five loaves and two fish. They’ll discover that Jesus is the Good Shepherd who sees, cares for, and provides for his sheep.

The disciples could not perform the miracle, but Jesus invited them to participate. They brought him what they had and trusted him to do what only he could do.

Mark 6:14–29 & Proverbs 16:18

PARENTS: Because children of many different ages and stages listen to this podcast, a few details in this account have been carefully adapted while remaining faithful to what Scripture teaches. In this episode, we do not include the graphic details of John’s death. 

 In today’s episode, we hear what happened to John the Baptist after he courageously confronted King Herod about his sin. Herod knew John was a righteous and holy man—and he even liked listening to him. But when Herod had to choose between doing what was right and protecting his reputation, pride took over.

Kids will learn that pride is more than bragging. Pride says, “I know best,” and places our desires above God’s Word. We’ll also discover why simply hearing God’s truth is not the same as believing, repenting, and obeying.

What We’ll Learn

 John courageously spoke God’s truth—even when it was scary.

 Hearing God’s Word is not the same as obeying it.

 Pride can make us care more about looking good than doing what is right.

 Discuss what humility is not.

# 421 : Why Twelve? - Mark · Part . 20

Mark 6:1-6

Jesus goes home to Nazareth — and sees the people who watched Him grow up. They know His mother, His brothers, His sisters. Isn't that just the carpenter? They think and when He stands up in the synagogue and teaches with astonishing wisdom, they don't fall to their knees. They fold their arms.

In this episode we walk through the verse that says "And he could do no mighty work there." Was Jesus not strong enough? Not for one second. Kids will learn why the King held back the joy of His kingdom from a town that had shut the door on Him — and why sometimes a big danger isn't doubting Jesus, but getting used to Him.

WHAT KIDS WILL LEARN

 "His own country" / "hometown" means Nazareth — the village where Jesus grew up (He was born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth)

 Being astonished by Jesus is not the same as believing in Jesus

 Calling Him "the son of Mary" instead of "the son of Joseph" was a quiet insult

 "Could do no mighty work" does not mean Jesus lacked power — it means it would have been wrong for the King to pour out His kingdom's joy on people who had rejected Him

 Jesus' miracles are signs, not tricks — windows showing the King has arrived

 Faith is a gift from God, not something we work up on our own

#420: Isn't That Just the Carpenter? · Mark · Part 19

The messengers arrive with the worst news a father could ever hear: Jairus's little girl has died. "Why bother the teacher anymore?" But Jesus turns to the heartbroken dad and says, "Don't be afraid; just believe." 

Together we walk the long, silent road to Jairus's house and witness one of the most tender moments in the Gospel of Mark — Jesus taking a little girl by the hand and calling her back to life. 

Jairus came asking for a healing. Jesus gave him something far greater. A gentle, hope-filled episode for talking with your kids about a hard subject — death — and the One who is stronger than it.

 A gentle look at "chronological snobbery": the people of Jesus' day knew exactly what death was — they weren't gullible

The Big Idea

#419: Not Dead, but Asleep - Mark Part 18

Scripture: Mark 5:21–35

Series: Mark part 17

 In today's episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and meet a woman who had been sick for twelve years. She had tried everything. Spent everything. And nothing had worked. But she had heard about Jesus—and she believed that if she could just get close enough to touch His cloak, she would be healed.

And she was. Instantly.

But then Jesus stopped and asked, "Who touched me?" The disciples thought it was a silly question—everyone was touching Him! So why did Jesus stop and ask?

Today we find out. 

We also meet Jairus—an important man who falls at Jesus' feet and begs Him to come heal his dying daughter. Jesus agrees and heads that way. But then the news arrives: "Your daughter is dead."

We will have to wait until next time to find out what happens next…

# 418: Why Did Jesus Stop? - Mark Part 17

Series: Mark Part 16Scripture: Mark 5:1–20

In today’s episode, we continue our journey through the Gospel of Mark and see Jesus step onto the shore in the region of the Gerasenes. There, He meets a man who is suffering terribly and living among the tombs. 

This story includes demons, sometimes the Bible also calls them unclean spirits, but we handle this carefully and remind kids of the most important truth: Jesus is stronger than darkness.

As Jesus speaks with authority, the unclean spirits must obey Him. The man who had been alone, hurting, and in bondage is restored. When the people come and see him, he is sitting with Jesus, dressed, and in his right mind. What a beautiful picture of mercy and rescue.

This episode helps kids see that Jesus does not only save and restore people so they can keep it to themselves. He gives His people a story to tell. Wherever Jesus places us—at home, with friends, at school, or in our community—we can tell others how much the Lord has done.

Today’s key truth:Jesus is stronger than darkness, full of mercy, and wants us to share his goodness with others.

We continue our story series today on Joseph. Last week we saw what his jealous brothers did and now we learn that it might even get worse for poor Joseph. Joseph does not lose heart though. He knows he can only see 1 little piece of the puzzle and that God can see the whole puzzle, the whole picture. Join us today as we learn how Joseph remembers that God has a plan for his life EVEN when his life is turned upside down.
