Hell And Gone is a true crime podcast from iHeartPodcasts and School of Humans that follows journalist and private investigator Catherine Townsend as she investigates unsolved deaths. 

Now in its fifth season, Hell and Gone is going weekly. 

Over the past five years of making true crime podcast Hell and Gone, host Catherine Townsend has received hundreds of messages from people all around the country asking for help with an unsolved murder that’s affected them, their families and their communities. 

In past seasons of the show, she’s only been able to focus on one case. But now, she’s hosting a new weekly show called Hell and Gone Murder Line. Every Thursday, Catherine features a new case, adds updates to old ones, and helps as much as she can to get the word out about unsolved murders.

Sometime between seven and eight AM on Saturday January 15, 1994, in Hot Springs, Arkansas, 31 year old David Ferrell knocks on his roommate Paul’s door. 36-year-old Paul Loyd would soon realize that maybe David was not who he thought he was...

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Paul Loyd

On Sept. 1, 1995, a police officer in Fort Smith, Arkansas pulled over a vehicle. A man named Jerry Cogan was driving and his girlfriend, 24-year-old Lori Murchison, was the passenger. 
 
Lori worked at a local nursing home. She had a four year old daughter, Britney, and adored her little girl. But Lori had been battling an addiction to drugs, according to what her friends told police, mainly to methamphetamines and also alcohol. 
 
Because of that, Lori had been living with her mother, Nancy, in between staying at different local motels, and Nancy had been taking care of Lori’s daughter on and off.
 
Lori and Jerry had been at a bar that night. When the officer pulled them over, he believed that both of them had been drinking. So, he placed Jerry under arrest for DUI, and Lori for suspicion of public intoxication. 
 
Lori was taken to the Sebastian County jail. And she was released sometime after 5 AM on September 2nd. She told detectives that she planned to get money and come back to bail Jerry out. 
 
But she never returned to jail. The last time she was seen alive was at the Continental Motel, when she was picking up a key to a room. 
 
Her family had no way of knowing where she was - or that the hunt for this missing mother would eventually involve charges of corruption at the highest levels of government.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Lori Murchison [From the Archives]

On Saturday, November 2, 2024 15-year-old Tripp Brazeale headed out of his house in Forrest City, Arkansas on a four wheeler. He was thrust into a high-speed chase with a Deputy police officer. 
 
Something happened that caused Tripp to abruptly stop and jump off his four wheeler at 12:42 AM and take off running into the woods. Tripp didn’t stop or turn back, he just disappeared.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Tripp Brazeale [From the Archives]

On August 21, 2017 seventy year old Larry Schulman was home alone sleeping in his upstairs bedroom at his home on Outer Bridge Lane in the Providence Commons area, an affluent suburb of Charlotte, North Carolina. Then at around 3:00 a.m. Larry was woken up in a daze, and found someone on top of him, brutally beating him with a gun. 
 
Larry soon realized he wasn't the only victim in the house. Down the hall, his son, Josh, was fatally shot. And their attackers were never found...

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Larry and Josh Schulman

On March 2nd 1957, 65 year old Maud Crawford, who was one of the most well-known women in her hometown of Camden Arkansas community after she made history as the only female attorney to ever practice law there, was stringing beans at home. Her husband stepped out to go to a movie and when he returned, Maud was no where to be found. Everything in their home was in its place but Maud was never seen again...

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Maud Crawford

On June 9, 2009, Angela Stewart pounded on her neighbor, Mark's, door at around 12:40 AM in Mooresville, North Carolina. They lived in a quiet, suburban neighborhood so getting a panicked knock in the middle of the night was very out of the ordinary. 
 
Mark was shocked when he opened the door and saw Angela and her one year old son covered in blood.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Matthew Stewart

It was around 7 pm on August 13, 1981, and 36-year-old Carol Morgan was working the till at her corner shop in a town called Leighton Buzzard in the county of Bedfordshire, England. 
 
On that night, Carol was working at the shop alone, getting ready for closing, which was at 6pm. But someone surprised her. She was later found in a pool of blood. 
 
Forensic testing revealed that Carol had been brutally beaten and stabbed with a weapon, something like an axe or a machete, something heavy but very sharp. She had been hit so hard that pieces of her skull and brain matter were on the floor. 
 
The police investigation would last 43 years and would take a lot of strange twists and turns to find out: Who came into that store and hacked Carole to death?

Late at night on August 28, 2001 when 15-year-old Jessie Marie Twilight Song Crooks, who went by Twilight, took a late night phone call at her home on Larmon Mill Road in Plano, Kentucky. She snuck out of her house and was never seen alive again. 
 
In part 2, we'll dive into rumors of an older crowd, a meth ring, and a mysterious white truck among other leads to see if we can find out if one of them knows who put Twilight in those woods.

On January 28, 2001 Super Bowl Sunday, 18-year-old Jill Lyn Euto was getting ready to go watch the big game with her family. The game started and the halftime show came and went. Jill never arrived. She was found in her apartment a couple days later stabbed to death and her family no where closer to finding answers.
