Hell And Gone is a true crime podcast from iHeartPodcasts and School of Humans that follows journalist and private investigator Catherine Townsend as she investigates unsolved deaths. 

Now in its fifth season, Hell and Gone is going weekly. 

Over the past five years of making true crime podcast Hell and Gone, host Catherine Townsend has received hundreds of messages from people all around the country asking for help with an unsolved murder that’s affected them, their families and their communities. 

In past seasons of the show, she’s only been able to focus on one case. But now, she’s hosting a new weekly show called Hell and Gone Murder Line. Every Thursday, Catherine features a new case, adds updates to old ones, and helps as much as she can to get the word out about unsolved murders.

Hell and Gone

On August 24, 2012, a Vietnam veteran who had been staying at the Lake Lanier Club Apartments off Dawsonville Highway in Gainesville, Georgia with his daughter and grandchildren, was taking a walk through the woods behind the complex. The man liked taking nature walks, and he was also following up on a report that he had made to the apartment management about a missing manhole cover. He later told police that he wanted to see if it had been replaced yet. 
 
It was around 7:30 pm in the evening, and still almost full daylight, and when the man paused near a stream bed, he saw something disturbing...something that he at first thought was a mannequin. Upon closer inspection, he realized that he was looking at a dead body. He called 911 and told them that a young lady, about 18 or 19 years old, was dead and looked like she had been dead for two or three days. 
 
The young woman was 16-year-old Hannah Truelove, a student at Gainesville High School. She had been missing since the night before. And even though her exact cause of death has not been revealed, police said she died a “violent death." She had been stabbed multiple times and left in the stream bed a quarter mile away from home; her flip flop was found a few yards away, tangled in some branches.

It was December 28, 2022, a few days after Christmas, and Erbena Costa was beginning to get seriously worried about her daughter, 22-year-old Anna Laura Costa Porsborg. 
 
Before Christmas she had gone on leave and headed out on a vacation in Los Angeles with her boyfriend, 36-year-old Luis Gomes Akay. 
 
What started out in sunny Hollywood would end with a body in a suitcase.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Anna Laura Costa Porsborg

On Sunday May 12, 2002, Mother’s Day evening, 28-year-old Jennifer Harris had spent the day with her family and at 6:30 pm that night, she arrived at her friend Kristy Farr’s house in their hometown of Bonham Texas. Suddenly, Jennifer told Kristy that she had to go. 
 
But Jennifer never came home. Six days later, a fisherman found Jennifer’s naked body floating in the Red River.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Jennifer Harris

In December 2020, the police received a call from a neighbor of 69 year old Charles Wilding, a reclusive man who lived by himself on Kingswood Road in Sherman Oaks, California. It seemed Charles disappeared from the neighborhood. But neighbors soon noticed someone new. A woman had moved into Charles’s house.
 
Investigators would eventually uncover a conspiracy involving forged wills, false identities, paid impostors, stolen real estate, millions of dollars and a body dismembered and dissolved in acid.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Caroline Herrling

On Sunday October 17, 2021 39-year-old Heidi Planck left her home in West Los Angeles near Culver City, to head out to her 11 year old son’s football game and was never seen again. 
 
And it didn’t take long for the rumors to start flying - about her past struggles with drugs, her, boss, his links to big money and powerful people in Los Angeles – and there are a LOT of new updates - about illegal gambling rings, organized crime and what happened to Heidi’s boss and the millions prosecutors alleged he stole from a Native American tribe.

On June 7, 1980, deputies with the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office arrived at a green one story ranch-style home in southwest Little Rock, Arkansas. Inside, they would discover one of the most brutal double homicides in Arkansas history.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Dorothy and Buddy Little

On the evening of Sunday, September 14, 2014, 15-year-old Cassie Kay Compton went out for a pack of cigarettes down the road from her small white house in Stuttgart, Arkansas...and never came back. At least that’s the official story. 
 
We know a few things for sure: Cassie had been spending the weekend with a friend of hers named Hunter, and Cassie slept over there on Saturday night. 
 
Hunter’s mother has said that this was not out of the ordinary. In fact, Cassie spent a lot of time at her house because, she said, things were chaotic at Cassie’s house.
 
Hunter drove her home on Sunday early evening and an hour later, she vanished. 
 
What really happened to Cassie Compton? And was she running from something at home?

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Cassie Compton [From the Archives]

On June 5, 2025, 36-year-old Chicago Police Officer Krystal Rivera and her partner, Carlos Baker, were working patrol in the East Chatham neighborhood on Chicago’s south side. They saw an armed man outside of an apartment building and began to chase him.
 
Moments later, Baker fired his weapon. But instead of striking the suspect, he hit Rivera — the officer beside him, his patrol partner, and his former girlfriend.

Hell and Gone Murder Line: Krystal Rivera

Clea Hall disappeared in 1994 when she was just 18 years old. The night she disappeared, she was only a few blocks away from home at her after-school job. What happened to Clea in those few short blocks between work and home? Did she get into a car with a stranger? Did someone unknown to her family pick her up? Or could something have happened at her job - something that meant that she never left that house alive?

Hell and Gone Murder Line_ Clea Hall [From the Archives]

On December 3, 2025, deputies were called to the home of 57-year-old Dr. Randall Beallis, his 40 year old wife, Charity Beallis and their six year old twins on South 1st Avenue in Bonanza, Arkansas. 
 
The bodies of Charity, and her two children, a boy and a girl were in the home - all of them had been fatally shot. On March 4, 2026, there was a shocking twist in the case. 
 
According to the sheriff’s office, the evidence reviewed so far did not point to another person being responsible. Investigators now say Charity killed the children - and then killed herself.
