Coffee Break Languages

Learn Swedish with teacher Hanna and her student Mark. Each lesson is like going for a coffee (or a fika!) with your friend who happens to speak Swedish and is helping you learn in a relaxed, enjoyable way. 

Coffee Break Swedish is not a simple series of "listen and repeat" audio programmes: in each lesson Hanna explains how the language works, helping Mark - and you - to manipulate the language and use it in practical situations. As a learner Mark asks questions, and makes mistakes, so through Hanna's explanations, corrections and pronunciation tips you'll build your confidence and begin to understand and speak the language.

You'll also build your cultural knowledge with the help of our cultural correspondent Emma who shares information on Swedish culture in many of the lessons.

In the same time it takes you to sit down and enjoy a coffee in your favourite coffee shop, you can make progress with your Swedish. Our 15-20 minute lessons are perfect to keep you focused and let you develop your confidence in regular sessions.

Coffee Break Swedish

In this final lesson of the Swedish Travel Diaries, we hear about how the family wrapped up their holiday on the Swedish west coast. We learn new vocabulary and new phrases, and have a look at the difference prepositions can make to the same verb.

CBSw TD 1.10 | Sol och bad på Tylösand

In the penultimate lesson of our Travel Diaries we follow Mattias and family further south along the Swedish west coast to the city of Halmstad. As the family runs into a minor crisis situation we take the opportunity to delve into lots of new phrases and grammar. In this lesson, the family leaves Marstrand to travel to nearby island Klädesholmen. The adventures of the family continue! In this episode we follow them as they take the ferry over to the island of Marstrandsön - an island full of sunshine, history, old fortresses, ghosts, and seagulls. This lesson builds on a lot of the grammar we are already familiar with and we encounter verbs in new tenses. We also see some new and useful constructions, and learn more about some of Sweden's most infamous criminals.
