Dr. Richard Illes, a successful heart surgeon, and his wife, Miriam, a stay-at-home mother to their young son, were a prominent couple in their small community of Williamsport, PA. Then, on Jan. 15, 1999, Miriam was fatally shot as she stood in front of her kitchen window. Because Miriam had filed for divorce from her husband, investigators believed Dr. Illes was responsible. “48 Hours" correspondent Susan Spencer reports. A Home Invasion in Colts Neck

In November 2004, New York couple Peter and Joan Porco were brutally attacked in their bed with an ax. Peter died at the scene. Joan survived and nodded “yes” when a detective asked her if her son Christopher was their attacker. Murder Near The Boardwalk

In December 1996, Atlanta resident David Coffin returned home from a weekend away with his girlfriend, Megan Lee, to find it had been ransacked and his Porsche was stolen. Two days later, David's house caught on fire and he was found dead inside. Police zeroed in on Scott Davis, Megan's estranged husband, as a suspect when he revealed he knew David died from a gunshot wound and not due to the fire. “48 Hours" correspondent Maureen Maher reports. The Haunting of David Coffin

On June 29, 2009, Brian Davis disappeared. According to his wife, Robyn, and her best friend, Carol Saltzman, Brian had left to go boat shopping and never came home. Police soon began to suspect the women when an examination of their cell phone records convinced police that they were lying. The two were both charged with murder when Brian was found shot to death alongside his car on an isolated road in St. Charles, LA. “48 Hours" correspondent Erin Moriarty reports. A Tragic Journey

In 1986, Sherri Mae Rasmussen was attacked, beaten and shot to death in her Los Angeles home. Her father, Nels Rasmussen, was convinced Sherri’s husband, John Ruetten, was not involved. For more than two decades, Nels tried to get the police to focus on John’s ex-girlfriend, Stephanie Lazarus, a decorated Los Angeles police detective. Detectives trailed Lazarus to obtain a DNA sample and the results were stunning: the DNA from Sherri’s bite mark and that of Stephanie Lazarus matched. “48 Hours" correspondent Maureen Maher reports.
