In 1986, 21-year-old Mitzi Nalley was brutally murdered in her Texas home. Police arrested Jonathan Wayne Nobles, who confessed to the crime and was sentenced to the death penalty. For more than a decade, Mitzi's mother tried to arrange a face-to-face confrontation with Nobles, but he refused until two weeks before his execution. Unsurprisingly, the case was a media sensation in 1932: especially when German immigrant Bruno Hauptmann was tried and executed for the crime. Hauptmann professed his innocence to the end: but could he have been telling the truth? This is a series that asks: was this case America's first great conspiracy?

During his time competing on Survivor, Joe Hunter has been open about seeking justice for the death of his sister Joanna whose death was ruled a suicide. “48 Hours” correspondent Natalie Morales and producer Michelle Fanucci discuss their investigation into Joanna’s death and an interview with Hunter who believes Joanna’s husband, former pastor Mark Lewis, staged the scene after years of domestic violence. Mark Lewis has not been charged with any crime relating to the death of Joanna.

Robin Doan was ten years old when an intruder broke into her home and massacred her entire family as they slept in their beds. Robin survived by playing dead and recalled details of the night to investigators. She would later testify at her killer's trial. “48 Hours" Correspondent Erin Moriarty reports. The Secret

When they were a few miles from the U.S. border, their truck was hijacked by a group of armed kidnappers and they were driven into the mountains outside Tijuana.
