The Secrets of the Artist (The Sherlock Holmes Advent Calendar: The Arrival of the Saviour, Episode 10)

After an afternoon of fruitless interrogations, Holmes, Watson and Inspector Lestrade withdraw to the abbey's dining hall while a snowstorm rages outside. Lestrade is embittered, Watson takes the Franciscans' part – and Holmes broods over the two books of the dead Brother Emanuel: his Bible and Mendel's theory of inheritance. Suddenly he slaps the table with his flat hand: a secret compartment is hidden in the Bible's binding – and inside it, the portrait of a strikingly pretty young lady. Who is she? His mother, a lost love, the reason he entered the monastery? Abbot Francis claims not to know her. But a remark from Lestrade sets Holmes on a new trail: the ink drawings in the abbey library. What do the pictures reveal about the man who drew them… This radio play was produced with the help of Eleven Labs and using properly licensed voice clones, and was checked by human proofreaders.
