The Priest of Saint Mary (The Sherlock Holmes Advent Calendar: The Arrival of the Saviour, Episode 12)

Exhausted and half frozen, Watson reaches Saint Mary's Church in Teddington at the side of the faithful mule Harry. Reverend Thomas Blake, an old Anglican priest with round spectacles, takes in his guest – and, because of the borrowed habit, promptly mistakes him for a Franciscan. Over a warming brandy, Watson clears up the misunderstanding and asks about the first murder victim. The Reverend needs no register: he baptised Simon Taylor himself and knows the whole sad history of the family. And when Watson shows him the portrait of a woman from Brother Emanuel's Bible, he learns something nobody had expected … Who is the young woman in the picture – and why did she vanish without a trace?
