The Poisoned Chocolates Case

This audiobook is narrated by an AI Voice. A box of chocolates. A fatal bet. And a murder that Scotland Yard cannot solve.

When Joan Bendix wins a box of chocolates from her husband on a whim, she has no idea the prize will kill her. The chocolates are poisoned — and by the time anyone realizes it, she is dead and her husband is barely clinging to life. Scotland Yard investigates, exhausts every lead, and admits defeat.

Enter the Crimes Circle: six brilliant amateur detectives — novelists, barristers, and armchair criminologists — led by the confident and ambitious Roger Sheringham. Convinced that six sharp minds can succeed where the professionals failed, the Circle takes on the case for themselves. One by one, each member presents a solution: a suspect, a motive, an airtight chain of logic. And one by one, each solution is dismantled by the next speaker — until no one, reader included, can say who is actually guilty.

Anthony Berkeley's 1929 masterpiece isn't just a whodunit — it's an interrogation of the whodunit itself, a puzzle box that hands the reader six different solutions and dares them to find the flaw in each. Founding member of the legendary Detection Club and a pioneer of the psychological crime novel, Berkeley built a mystery so ingeniously constructed it's still studied and admired by crime writers and critics as one of the finest examples of the genre's golden age.

If you love a mystery that plays fair, then pulls the rug out from under you again and again, this is essential listening.
