The Librarian (The Sherlock Holmes Advent Calendar: The Arrival of the Saviour, Episode 7)

The confessions of all 25 monks are over – and have yielded nothing. While Lestrade insists on tried-and-tested police methods and the Abbot mourns his lost brother, Holmes announces interrogations: he intends to separate the wolf from the flock, however well it may be disguised. First, though, the path leads to the abbey library, a treasure of centuries: Aristotle, Dante, the Canterbury Tales – and a locked side room for Darwin and Marx. The ancient librarian, Brother Nikolaus, debates faith and criticism with Holmes, but what he really has to tell the investigators is something else entirely: strange things have been going on in the abbey for months, and he knows who quarrelled with Brother Emanuel on the eve of the murder. Will he speak the name? Then a message from London puts the Abbot under pressure – and at lunch the soup goes untouched... This radio play was produced with the help of Eleven Labs and using properly licensed voice clones, and was checked by human proofreaders.
