The Diamond Ship by Max Pemberton

Max Pemberton was born on the 19th June 1863 in Paddington, London, England.

Educated at Cambridge, Pemberton initially studied law before shifting his focus to journalism.

In 1901 he achieved a major literary success with his bestselling novel, ‘The Iron Pirate’, which launched him on a highly prolific career writing historical romances, sea adventures, and early speculative fiction.

He was also a very influential figure in the British publishing world where he also served as the influential editor of popular periodicals like Chums and Cassell's Magazine, and helped to foster the early careers of several noted crime writers.

In 1920, he founded the London School of Journalism, and his extensive contributions to British literature earned him a knighthood in 1928.

Max Pemberton died on the 22nd February 1950 at his home in London, England. He was 86.
