Thanksgiving in Plymouth, Massachusetts has always been a blend of myth and memory — pilgrims, parades, and history lessons. But when night falls and fog rolls off Cape Cod Bay, a different tradition stirs.

Witnesses report blue lanterns gliding through the mist each Thanksgiving night, moving silently from the harbor toward Burial Hill — the resting place of the earliest settlers. No footsteps. No voices. Just light drifting across stone and sea.

First reported in 1983, and traced to 19th-century candlelit memorial walks for those who died the first winter, the phenomenon continues — always midnight to one. And the night Harold Baxter passed away, one of the ghostly lights flickered and vanished mid-procession.
