When Bert the spaniel digs up more than bones at a wartime museum, Georgina Drake uncovers ghosts that are still haunting the present.

A visit to Foxwood Airfield’s heritage museum with her best friend, Sybbie, should have been nothing more than an afternoon of history and homemade cake. But when Georgina’s spaniel unearths a human hand in the nearby woodland, that changes fast. The remains belong to Jimmy Tipton, an ARP warden officially killed in an air raid eighty years ago – except, as Georgina soon learns, he was shot at point-blank range instead.

With help from her usual cast of supportive sleuthing partners, Georgina starts unravelling a wartime tangle of black-market dealings, forbidden dances, and a crime two families connected to the modern museum have spent decades trying to forget. And when the airfield’s prickly director turns up dead in equally suspicious circumstances, it’s clear the past isn’t finished with Foxwood yet.
