#1 The power of giving is illustrated in the story of Brooks Brothers and Cameron Herold. In 2007, I had just joined the Entrepreneurs Organization, a network of twelve thousand CEOs from around the globe. I was excited to meet other members, but was a little nervous about how they would perceive me. I decided to send Cameron Herold a dress shirt, and asked what size he wore.

#2 The idea of gift giving and reciprocity is deeply rooted in our history. It signifies not just certain events, but people, places, and things that are important to us.

#3 The idea of reciprocity is based on exchange, and it is often done to direct mutual benefit with many positive outcomes. It is important to be sure that the person on the receiving end of your gift is also important to your inner circle.

#4 The overall goal of Giftology is to make someone feel special and acknowledged by gifting them with practical luxuries. Most of the gifts that we recommend are in the $100 to $1,000 range, so don’t think I’m trying to sell you on the merits of sending someone a $25,000 Rolex.
