Every member of their strange society, all 100,000,000 of them were willing to die to prevent the humans from profaning their sacred temple. Did I say willing to die? Heck they were absolutely eager to die. It was a difficult situation for the human crew who just wanted to get enough fuel to limp home in their old spaceship.
