Edna Salter had put in her time with the sheriff's department, and she'd always wanted to be a detective, but being the only woman in a male dominated section of the agency left her feeling ignored and unaccepted. Luke Axle was a newcomer to western Montana, after a long and successful career in Georgia law enforcement. His assignment to the Missoula office of the state division of criminal investigation offered the promise of new challenges in beautiful country. As is often the case, unknown crime victims are given memorable--and sometime alliterative--names, and Plant Creek Patty was one of those unidentified bodies.
