Ellis Parker Butler was born on the 5th December 1869 in Muscatine, Iowa.

During the pulp-fiction era he became its most prolific author; producing over 30 books and 2,000 short stories. Despite this incredible literary output, he still retained a full-time job as a banker.

He first achieved fame with his 1905 breakthrough short story, ‘Pigs is Pigs’, a satirical joy about a bureaucratic stationmaster and fast-multiplying guinea pigs. This success allowed him to relocate to New York, where he became a key figure in the literary community. He was a founding member of the Authors’ League of America and the Dutch Treat Club.

He spent his later years in Flushing, Queens, before moving to Massachusetts.

Ellis Parker Butler died on the 13th September 1937 in Williamsville, Massachusetts.
