Message from a Stranger

It was as she replaced the lipstick in her handbag that she looked directly at Mike. The glance made him start, for the vivid blue eyes were new clouded with an anxious appeal. For a moment she held his gaze—then she looked down at the table only to turn immediately to him again.

Never had Mike been more certain. The beautiful stranger had tried to telegraph a message—a message of appeal. But surely that was absurd. This was London’s most exclusive restaurant—nothing sensational could happen here…
