Mental Health Through Will-Training was originally published in 1950 and provided readers with an introduction to the Recovery Method developed by neuropsychiatrist Abraham Low, M.D. Dr. Low was a pioneer in the field of cognitive behavioral therapy. His self-help techniques have helped millions of people manage symptoms of stress, anxiety, depression and anger for almost 90 years. The Method was originally designed to alleviate chronic conditions in people suffering with mental illness or emotional challenges. Today, the Method continues to help even more people deal with symptoms of everyday stress evoked by commonplace occurrences. Dr. Low founded the non-profit organization Recovery International in 1937, which is still active today. His Method is taught by hundreds of peer leaders who operate support groups throughout the United States, as well as in Puerto Rico, Canada, Ireland, and other countries. Support group meetings, led by trained peer facilitators, are available seven days a week through Zoom, telephone, and in-person. This Fifth Edition has updated some of the language and examples to make the book more relevant to today's reader. The book not only lays out the framework for developing better coping skills, but is also essential for taking part in Recovery International meetings. This book is the source for many self-help tools used in Recovery International, including phrases like: "Humor is our best friend, temper is our worst enemy." "Have the courage to make a mistake." "People do things that annoy us, not necessarily to annoy us. "Every act of self-control leads to a sense of self-respect." "Temper is an intellectual blindness to the other side of the story." This book is a classic that continues to help many people today.
