Liu Bei was homelss and nearly powerless when he took a risk and asked Zhuge Liang to be his senior military strategist. But the gamble has more than paid off. Zhuge Liang has already changed the balance of power between the three kingdoms, and he will soon prove that some battle can be won without weapons.

What changes Liu Bei's fortune is the arrival of Zhuge Liang. At first, Zhuge Liang urges Liu Bei to abandon his ideals for the sake of winning the war and eventually restoring the peace. When Liu Bei refuses, Zhuge Liang doesn't withdraw his offer of support; rather, he comes to understand that fighting on behalf of Liu Bei will require weapons that don't involve sharpened steel. Instead of focusing solely on building up armies and supplies, Zhuge Liang takes the time to learn about the environment where a battle takes place, and even studies the weather patterns, because he knows that his forces will be outnumbered, out-equipped, and without the mandate to win by whatever means necessary.
