Hagakure is a seminal work in the samurai tradition, written by Yamamoto Tsunetomo, a samurai of the early 18th century. Yamamoto Tsunetomo was a samurai who lived in Japan during the Edo period (1603-1868). He was born in 1659 in Nabeshima, Saga, and became a retainer of the Nabeshima clan at the age of 19. Tsunetomo is most well-known for his authorship of the classic text, Hagakure, which he wrote in the early 18th century.
