Every Indian knows this song and knows about the Bollywood movie ‘Border’. But that the movie was based on the Battle of Longewala would be unknown to most. The battle of Longewala was fought in the western sector of India between Indian and Pakistani forces from the 04th to the 06th of December 1971 and was one of immense critical importance. If the Pakistan Army had captured Longewala they could turn the entire defences of the India’ 12 Infantry Division located in North East Rajasthan.
