Empire of Steam

In an alternate timeline where the Roman Empire undergoes an industrial revolution in 100 AD, steam power and mass production transform the empire into an unprecedented superpower. The story follows Marcus Aelius, a visionary engineer who invents the first steam engine, and Livia, a shrewd senator's daughter who sees the potential for these innovations to reshape society. As Rome's borders expand rapidly, fueled by steam-powered legions and factories, the empire faces internal strife. Traditionalists, led by the influential General Cassius, fear the loss of Roman values and the destabilization of power. Meanwhile, Livia and Marcus must navigate political intrigue and sabotage to protect their vision of a new Rome. The main intrigue revolves around a conspiracy to destroy the steam engine blueprints, threatening to plunge the empire back into stagnation. As tensions rise, Marcus and Livia must decide whether to align with the reformists or the traditionalists, ultimately shaping the future of Rome and its cultural legacy.
