Colourful Instrument Workshops

When fifth grader Mirelle Fane finds store-bought instruments dull, she and her neighbor Ruvan Crest discover a community makerspace brimming with recycled treasures. Together, they measure PVC pipes, stretch drum skins over tin cans, and knot vibrant embroidery floss around wooden spoons to craft one-of-a-kind instruments. As each workshop explores pitch, rhythm, and timbre alongside color theory and brush techniques, the duo leads neighborhood “Design Jam” sessions to spark creative collaboration. Their winter showcase unfolds as a walking art parade—a living gallery of painted instruments and live melodies—proving that engineering and fine art can blend into a joyful, hands-on symphony of sight and sound.
