Edmund Andros, an English colonial administrator in British America, served as governor of the Dominion of New England and the provinces of New York, East and West Jersey, Virginia, and Maryland. Although his tenure in New England was authoritarian and turbulent due to his pro-Anglican views, he was considered a more effective governor in New York and Virginia. Despite enmities, he managed to negotiate several treaties of the Covenant Chain with the Iroquois, establishing a long-lived peace involving the colonies and other tribes. This biography chronicles Andros's life and governance, including his recall to England from Virginia and the resumption of the title of Bailiff of Guernsey until his death in 1714.
