When Professor Lidenbrock discovers a 16th century clue to the most outrageous expedition of all time, he must try it himself. Taking his nephew Axel and engaging Hans, the Icelandic guide and eiderdown hunter, they rappel down a volcanic lava tube to discover what awaits them in the center of the earth. ¶ Lost world/subterranean fiction wasn't new at the time of Verne, but his Victorian science background really elevated the genre, lending it a validity it hadn't enjoyed before. With fun characters and snappy dialogue, this "what-if" adventure will get you spelunking before you know it.
