The terms, Word and Spirit, are intended to open space for the pneumatological emphasis typical of Pentecostal/Charismatic approaches to theology without eclipsing the discernment that comes with the Word of God (both Christological and Scriptural). "Pentecostal" should be understood to carry a lowercase "p," which would include charismatic as well. The series, however, will also have an ecumenical horizon, written in a way that would also have relevance for other faith traditions. The term "Investigations" describes scholarly treatments of topics that will nevertheless be accessible to pastors as well as seminary and upper division college readers. "Theology" refers to constructive works in biblical, systematic, and historical theology, with an eye towards contemporary relevance for the church.
The series will contract academic monographs that offer a solid Pentecostal and ecumenical discussion of key loci, but also of key trajectories in Pentecostal thought and experience.
The first two volumes of the series will include a systematic theology by Frank Macchia which will be the inaugural volume (due December of 2021) followed a year later by Dale Coulter's Pentecostal Soteriology focused on sanctification (a historical and constructive work). We are planning as a third volume by Lisa Stephenson, a Pentecostal-Charismatic Feminist Theology, focusing on the Spirit (due a year after that). Other volumes are in planning and discussion.
