Series Description:
Entering the stage of philosophy is not a naive endeavor. It requires initiators, those who choose less steep paths to serve as guides for making better progress. This book series, Thinking Philosophy of Religion, aims to do this by introducing the major themes and figures of continental thought, from phenomenology and hermeneutics to metaphysics and spiritualism, with special attention to philosophy of religion. The act of philosophizing always occurs within a community, and while the great works of the philosophical tradition are important, so also is their reception, for it is in dialogue that thought is born. This series will thus strive to reveal in each work its original intuition and internal coherence, even discovering gems that the authors themselves may not have anticipated, recognizing that there is no philosophy without dialogue, and no dialogue without opening oneself to others and the world. Nevertheless, speech often suffers from not being thought through or worked on enough. We have lost the art of conversation--the art that was once practiced in the salons of philosophy and of music, where listening echoed the sounds of the world in others and their own way of living and thinking. This series will thus take the time to meet and question thinkers in the field of continental philosophy. We can only rejoice at the creativity shown by philosophy in Europe, particularly in its dialogue with the American continent. We will relay this exchange here, and in the absence of being able to personally meet the authors, we can always bring them to life, and revive them, when the act of speaking remains an "art" that we pledge to foster and respect. Through the act of introducing and engaging with the masters of continental philosophy, this series will bring to life the living debates that have shaped the formation of contemporary continental thought.
