Pop Culture and the Sacred is an interdisciplinary series that uses artifacts of popular culture as a springboard to explore philosophical and theological, literary and ethical themes. Inviting exploration of the implicitly sacred motifs hidden in plain sight within popular books and movies, it encourages readers to consider significant questions about the meaning and nature of existence. It is meant to explore the evidential significance of a range of realities--from the sacredness of life to the value and uniqueness of people, from the dignity of persons to their essential equality, from inviolable human rights to ubiquitous signals of transcendence.
The series is a bridge-building project, breaking down misconceptions about both the church and the culture and allowing for more and better exchanges of ideas. As C. S. Lewis once wrote, we don't need more Christian books but more books on other topics written by Christians--where the Christianity is latent. In that spirit, this series tacitly and implicitly encourages its readers to think, follow the evidence where it leads, and develop discernment concerning echoes of the divine, hints of the transcendent, signposts of the sacred, and intimations of enchantment. The books in the series will be largely jargon-free and eminently readable and understandable, easily digestible by nonspecialists.
